Heavy Equipment Operator

Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources Group we provide resource management, and operational services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect towards the environment. Our goals include creating economic growth from the commercial development of natural resources within the Simpcw'ulécw (Simpcw Territory) by being the major contractor and competing for work in both the public and private sectors.

Current Opportunities:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in resource road construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, deactivation and will have a strong understanding of construction techniques, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
This position will also support other SRLLP division projects, requiring the use of heavy equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy machinery including bulldozers, graders, excavators, and compactors to build, maintain, and deactivate roads.
  • Follow plans, designs and prescriptions, to ensure compliance to project specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries on the job site.
  • Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate project specific activities.
  • Operate equipment in a manner that maximizes productivity while minimizing damage to the environment and surrounding infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to stay updated on industry best practices and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Operator in road building and deactivation projects.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Certification or training in heavy equipment operation preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physically fit and able to work in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
  • Knowledge of regulations and best practices for minimizing environmental impact.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols at all times.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, at-times away from home, and travel to remote job sites as required.
  • Ability to work alone in a safety sensitive environment.
  • Experience working with First Nations people is valued.
  • Knowledge of the Simpcw First Nations community is valued.
