Canoe Valley Wetland Connectivity Restoration Project

Project Goals

The principal goal of this project is to have meaningful and measurable impact in supporting and strengthening ecosystem health in two key wetlands in the Canoe Valley, BC. This project aims to maintain and improve ecological health and native biodiversity through plantings, species-specific habitat enhancements, and community engagement. Wetlands are essential ecosystems that provide critical habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal species, as well as important ecological services such as water filtration, carbon sequestration, and flood mitigation. However, many wetlands have been degraded or destroyed due to human activities such as development, agriculture, and resource extraction. Wetland enhancement projects seek to restore and improve these valuable ecosystems by increasing their biodiversity, resilience, and functionality.

The specific objectives include in stage 1 of the project:

  • Erosion control
  • Native species planting and monitoring
  • Educational signage
  • Bat monitoring and enhancement
  • Bird monitoring and enhancement
