Simpcw Resources Group is proud to offer a local wood program to the community members within the area. Managed by Roger Bowser and Kenna Koroll from SRG located in Chu Chua, the program offers a straightforward process for residents to secure firewood for their homes during the winter months. When in need, a resident
contacts the SRG office, which then notifies Roger and Kenna to prepare, deliver, and neatly stack the ready-to-use, pre-cut wood at the resident’s home. Elders receive special attention, with additional wood to last through the weekend, ensuring their comfort and warmth. At the core of this initiative is a preference for fir wood, chosen for its slow-burning quality that offers prolonged warmth during the cold months.
The program carefully manages the wood seasoning process, which takes about
eight months to ensure optimal dryness, preparing for the upcoming winter. This season, the program achieved a significant milestone by delivering approximately 140 loads of wood,
underscoring its dedication to community service. Its inclusive approach ensures that all community members have access to warmth and comfort, without any restrictions on the amount of wood requested. This inclusivity is vital in a region where wood and electric heating are predominant, ensuring that every resident, regardless of their
situation, has the warmth and security that wood heating provides. The local wood program demonstrates remarkable community resilience and compassion, emphasizing the
importance of quality, inclusivity, and service. The program’s success is by the generous wood donations from local mills and forestry/logging contracts, such as Tolko and West Fraser, highlighting a community-wide effort to support this essential service.
